Driveways, Paving & Footpaths
New driveways in tarmac, cobblelock, gravel and natural stone — laid on a proper base with the drainage done right, and finished with stone edging that lifts the whole front of your home. Patios and footpaths too.
A driveway that lasts — done properly from the base up
A new driveway transforms the front of a house, but a good one is all about what you don't see. Most driveways that sink, crack or pool water fail for the same reason: a poor base. We excavate to the right depth, lay a solid sub-base, sort the drainage and falls, and only then lay the surface — so yours stays flat and sound for years.
And because we're stonemasons first, we finish driveways properly — with stone or cobble edging, and we can build your entrance pillars and boundary wall as one job, so the whole entrance ties together.

The stonemason's finish
Most driveway firms don't do stone. We do — so we bring a level of finish others can't. We recently laid the footpaths and paving on a €500,000 estate project, complete with limestone entrance pillars and over 300 metres of stone wall, and handled the paths and paving around the €1.2m restoration of Grange Castle.
That means when we do your driveway, the edging, the entrance and the boundary can all be done together, in matching materials, by one team — a proper, joined-up front to your property.

The base is everything
A driveway fails from the bottom up. The reason you see sunken, rutted, weed-strewn driveways all over the place is almost always the same: not enough base. We dig out to firm subgrade — deeper for a driveway that takes cars and vans than for a footpath — and cart the dug material away rather than burying it.
Then we build it up in the right layers: a geotextile membrane over the subgrade to stop the ground and the sub-base mixing, a compacted MOT/804 stone sub-base laid and whacked in layers to the right depth, and edge restraints — kerbs or edging haunched in concrete — so the surface can't spread and creep at the sides. Every driveway is laid to a fall so surface water runs to where you want it, not to your front door.
The right surface for the job. Block paving for looks and easy repair, tarmac for a clean seamless finish, concrete or an exposed-aggregate finish for hard wearing, or gravel over a bound base. Where drainage rules apply we can lay permeable paving that lets rain soak through — worth knowing that paving a large front garden to a non-permeable finish can need planning permission, and we'll advise on the right build-up.
Because we're stonemasons, we also handle the parts other drive layers sub out or skip — a natural stone entrance, matching boundary walls and piers, granite or cobble edging and feature bands — so the driveway and the front of your property are finished as one job, to one standard.

Alan Bow · Google reviewDriveways & paving — your questions answered
What kinds of driveways do you lay?
All of them — tarmac (asphalt), cobblelock/paving, gravel, concrete and natural stone. We'll advise what suits your home, budget and how the driveway is used, and finish them with proper edging, often in stone to match a wall or entrance.
Do you do the foundations and drainage too?
Yes, and it's the part that matters most — a driveway is only as good as the base under it. We excavate, lay a proper sub-base and sort the drainage and falls so water runs away and the surface doesn't sink, crack or pool. Skipping this is why cheap driveways fail.
Can you match the driveway to a new stone wall or entrance?
Absolutely — that's our speciality. As stonemasons we can build your entrance pillars, boundary wall and driveway as one job, with stone edging and cobble details that tie the whole front of the property together.
Do you also do patios and footpaths?
Yes. We lay patios and footpaths in natural stone, paving, concrete and tarmac — for homes, developments and commercial sites, including a €500k estate project and the restoration of Grange Castle.
