A grand limestone entrance & a 300-metre boundary

This was one of our largest natural-stone projects — a €500,000 scheme at Consuls Eco Beach Farm, building a grand estate entrance and the boundary that runs from it. It's exactly the kind of work natural limestone was made for: solid, dignified and built to stand for generations.

We built the limestone entrance pillars and hung the gates, then carried the natural limestone wall on for over 300 metres along the boundary — topped with railings and finished alongside a new footpath. Every stone chosen and placed by hand, so the whole run reads as one continuous, high-quality piece of stonework.

The brief

An entrance worthy of the estate

The brief was a statement entrance and a long, matching boundary in natural limestone — the kind of stonework that tells you the moment you arrive that this is somewhere special. Limestone is a beautiful, hard-wearing Irish stone, and it's perfect for an estate entrance that has to look the part and last.

A project on this scale is as much about planning as stone: setting out the entrance, the pillars, the gate openings and 300 metres of wall so everything lines up and flows.

Phase 1 · Entrance pillars & gates

Solid limestone pillars, hung with gates

We built the entrance pillars in natural limestone — solid, well-proportioned and capped off cleanly — and set them to take the gates and railings. Getting the pillars plumb, square and evenly spaced across a wide entrance is precise work; they're the anchor the whole entrance is built around.

With the pillars up and the gates and railings hung between them, the estate had its statement entrance — natural stone and ironwork, done properly.

Phase 2 · Over 300 metres of limestone wall

The boundary wall, carried the whole way

From the entrance, we carried the natural limestone wall on for more than 300 metres along the boundary — every stone laid and bonded by hand, kept level and consistent the whole way, and topped to take the railings. Keeping a wall that long looking uniform, run after run, is a real test of a team.

A 300-metre hand-built stone wall is a serious undertaking. Done right — as this was — it's a boundary that will still be standing, straight and sound, long after everything else has been replaced.

The result

Railings, footpath and the finished entrance

Topped with railings and finished alongside a new footpath, the completed entrance and boundary come together as one — the limestone catching the light along the road, the gates and railings framing the entrance, and the whole run flowing cleanly the length of the estate.

It's the kind of project we're proudest of: large, high-end natural-stone work, built by hand to a standard that does the setting justice. From an estate entrance like this to a wall at the front of your own home, it's the same craft.
