Natural granite boundary walls, built by hand

There's nothing that finishes a property like a proper natural-stone boundary wall โ€” and granite rubble stone, laid by hand, is about as good as it gets. For this Dublin project we built long roadside runs of natural granite walling to enclose a residential development, curving the wall to follow the footpath and finishing it with solid stone pillars.

Every stone was chosen and placed by hand so the wall beds and bonds through its full thickness, sits true, and reads as a single, honest piece of stonework. It's the same craft we bring to a garden wall at home or a full development boundary โ€” the right stone, the right build, and a finish that lasts for generations.

The brief

A natural-stone boundary for a Dublin development

The job was to enclose a residential development in Dublin with a proper natural granite stone wall โ€” the kind of solid, traditional boundary that lifts a whole scheme and looks like it belongs, rather than a plain block or panel wall.

Granite is a hard, durable, characterful stone, and a rubble-built granite wall gives a rich, textured finish that ages beautifully. Getting long runs of it straight, level and consistent along a roadside is where experience counts.

Phase 1 ยท Foundations & setting out

A solid base and a true line

A stone wall is only ever as good as what's under it. We set out the line of the wall along the boundary and footpath, and laid solid foundations to carry it โ€” so a heavy granite wall stands dead straight and doesn't move, settle or crack over time.

Setting out the curves and levels correctly at this stage is what lets the finished wall flow cleanly along the road and tie neatly into the paths and kerbs around it.

Phase 2 ยท Building in granite

Laid stone by stone, by hand

With the base ready, we built the wall up by hand in natural granite rubble stone โ€” selecting and placing each stone for its face and its fit, bonding it through the thickness of the wall, and keeping the whole run level and true as it rose.

Rubble-stone walling done well is a real craft. It's not just stacking stone; it's reading each piece, breaking the joints, tying the wall together and building in the pillars and returns so the finished wall is as strong as it is good-looking.

Phase 3 ยท Pillars, curves & finishing

Curved to the road, finished to last

We built the wall to curve gracefully along the line of the footpath, with solid granite pillars worked in and the tops finished off cleanly. Curving a rubble-stone wall and keeping it consistent takes patience and a good eye โ€” it's what separates a proper stone wall from a straight, flat one.

Finished off and tied into the surrounding paths, kerbs and planting, the wall becomes part of the streetscape โ€” a boundary that looks like it has always been there.

The result

A boundary that lifts the whole scheme

Finished, the granite wall gives the development a solid, high-quality boundary with real character โ€” the natural stone catching the light along the road, the pillars anchoring it, and the whole run flowing cleanly past the new paths and planting.

It's the kind of natural-stone work we love: built by hand, built to last, and lifting everything around it. Whether it's a development boundary like this or a wall at the front of your own home, it's the same craft and the same standard.
